Who Are We?

Walfinch provides bespoke, high-quality health care at home to individuals and families across the UK. We are small enough to provide the high-quality care that everyone would want for themselves and their loved ones, and big enough to provide it in a reliable, professional way. Rather than the highly-corporate ‘pile ‘em high, sell ‘em cheap approach to care, Walfinch is committed to genuinely high-quality, individualised care.

“What do you want?” is always our first question.

Once we have really listened and ascertained your care needs, we will work together with you and your family to draw up an individual Plan of Care and ensure its proper administration. We aim to maintain the independence of those we care for, to enable them to continue to live in their beloved home. Not satisfied with just maintenance care, we are committed to working to help achieve optimal recovery and improvement.

We know that there is no place like home. Nine out of ten people say that they would prefer care at home to moving to a care home. Walfinch can deliver that.  We provide visiting at-home care and 24-hour live-in care, from caregivers dedicated to meeting many kinds of care needs, from companionship to specialist care for conditions such as dementia, multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke and more. Our care packages are bespoke and flexible, but we believe that one hour is the minimum time required to deliver the best quality care.

Quality care you can trust from a British company

We are a British company covering the whole of the UK and we understand UK culture in all its diversity. We are a family-run business and take a pride in our family values. Many of our nationwide offices are family-run. We value our own family and treat our caregivers like family – which is why we understand the importance of family to you.

Why ‘Walfinch’?  The name references the finch – a bird that has successfully evolved, like the company’s care services, to be at home in a huge number of varied habitats – with the surname of Amrit Dhaliwal, the Walfinch Ltd Managing Director. There are many types of finches, including the goldfinch, greenfinch, and the familiar canary, just as there are many types of care that Walfinch offers.

Our Mission

To provide compassionate care at home and improve the quality of life for our clients, their families, and our employees.

Our Vision

To become a leading home care provider in the UK, to become one of the care sector’s innovators and above all, to improve the quality of life for our clients.

Our Values: The Mum Test

Our values are based on a simple concept: the mum test.

When deciding what care is best, how it should be delivered and who should deliver it, we always ask ourselves: “Would I like this for my own mum?” If the answer is no, we think again.

Similarly when recruiting caregivers, we ask ourselves: “Would I like this person to be looking after my mum?” Only if we are confident that the answer is yes, do we consider employing them.

The mum test is easy to understand, to remember and to put into practice, so it is easy to stick to,  all the time.

Of course, we also abide by – and always strive to exceed – all the national regulations and standards that apply to the care sector too.

Our Commitments are to:

  • Excellence in all aspects of care
  • Respect for our clients and their families

Listening to our clients, caregivers and our consciences

Honesty in communication

Treating people as we would like to be treated ourselves

The importance of family

Teamwork

Ensuring that everyone – clients, caregivers, office staff – enjoy some aspect of fun every day

Our carergivers

We value our caregivers as the most important people in our organisation and we do everything we can to support and retain them within our team. We firmly believe that the better we care for our caregivers, the better care they provide.

They serve as an extension of your family to help care for your loved ones, so we carefully match our caregiver to your needs, helping families to respect the wishes and rights of their loved ones.

Our intensive recruitment process focuses on finding caregivers who have the right caring attitude, but they are also required to undertake our training programme, which equips them with the skills necessary to become an outstanding caregiver.

Our philosophy of valuing our carers, plus our back-office support teams, and our focus on high-quality training means that on average eight out of ten of our carers stay with us year-on-year – which means we deliver high-quality care to our clients.

Why we think home care a better option

Domiciliary care is widely considered a better alternative to residential care, where possible, and recent concerns over the high number of Covid-related deaths in care homes have caused many people to consider alternative care options.

Live-in Care Vacancies

Research shows that:

A staggering 97 percent of people do not want to go into a care home if they become ill or less able to cope.

The Better at Home report* revealed significant benefits for the health and safety of people receiving care at home compared to those living in care homes.

Its conclusions include: “The analysis clearly demonstrates that not only do individuals want to remain in their own home should they need care, but it is also safer for them to do so. In addition to the physical benefits of remaining in their own home, evidence shows the mental wellbeing benefits improve quality of life and can also help reduce the pressure on our wonderful, but over-stretched NHS.”

Home care means remaining among the people, things, and places you know and love. Care at home means you don’t have to separate from everything that is familiar. As much as you are able, you can continue to sleep in your own bed, enjoy the food you like served on your own plates, keep your pets, enjoy your garden, and entertain family and friends. With the help of your carer you can continue to live life to the full.
